Christmas is around the corner, and it is most definitely time to decorate (yes, it is FINALLY December)! Now, when it comes to more traditional home Christmases, we are all familiar with the tree, lights and bauble combination in our cosy homes. Someone drags the “Xmas Decs” box out of the loft, and the family sits around the fire reminiscing previous festivities… At least in a conventional world, anyway! For those of us who prefer the open road however, it’s even more important to get ourselves into the festive spirit in time for Christmas! We’ve come up with the five most important decor must-haves to create your own little Christmas, in the heart of your VW Bus. Take a scroll through our choices:
The Best VW Bus Decorations: 1-5
1. The Lights For Your VW Bus
It goes without saying really, but the ultimate must-have for any Christmas decor are of course… the lights! Fairy lights, lanterns and miniature table ornaments are all part of what brings that special Christmassy vibe to our spaces. Now, you can go for the classic white lights that give off a winter effect, have a mix of multi-coloured and white for full coverage, or go full out with inside and outside decoration, all over your van! Hey, it’s Christmas. Go for it! Just remember to switch them off before you sleep – your generator could run out of energy!
2. The Trinkets For Your VW Bus
Number two has to be trinkets as all those little extras really help bring the Christmas spirit alive. From mini nativity scenes to stuffed fake presents, you can get really creative here! We feel perhaps less is more approach when decorating your VW Bus is favourable, as you may end up a little swamped for space! We’d suggest choosing 4 or 5 really special items that can sit on your dashboard (and hang off the back of the van, of course!) and sticking to that. One tip for sure is: do not try anything made out of glass. We think we can all agree that’s a recipe for disaster when we’re on the road!
3. The Tinsel For Your VW Bus
Now, tinsel is one of those many debates at Christmas time. Some find it tacky, some love it, and some go completely overboard. Since you’re decorating your VW Bus for Christmas, we think all hail the tinsel! It’s light, easy and super colourful. You can opt for a colour theme to tie in with your lights – or better yet, to fit the colour of your camper. Or, go for it and hope for the best! Either way, tinsel is a cost-effective, fool-proof way of getting that instant Christmas jazz going on.
4. The Mini Tree For Your VW Bus
Okay, so it’s fair to say we won’t be able to do the traditional Christmas tree hunt with the family this year. Yes, it may be sad (but true), however, it is just not possible to stick a real life-size Christmas tree in your bus! Thankfully, there are many miniature synthetic trees you can find now, and some are so life-like, you will barely notice the difference! The beauty of this is that many of them already come decorated, or you can find one to decorate yourself if you so wish. Either way, we are pleased to say there’s a solution for those of us on the road this Christmas.
5. The Candles For Your VW Bus
Last but certainly not least, is, of course, candles! Perhaps it’s not the best idea to have real wax candles dotted around your VW Bus, but if it’s just you and your partner (minus the kids!) and you trust yourselves, go ahead. If the whole family is out with you, then it may be better to opt for battery-powered candles instead. You could also opt for some tealights in your lanterns or just scattered outside on your dinner table. Whatever you decide, candles are a wonderful way to really light up the festive atmosphere and get the family into the spirit!
Can you see it now? Oh, we certainly can! Just imagine “Jingle Bells” bellowing out of your speakers as you switch on the fairy lights for the evening, light some candles in time for dinner and sit around the campfire, telling those oh-so-funny family stories. Rise and shine to the smell of fresh coffee on the coals and get decorating the inside of your little bus haven. We can’t wait!
