Hey I'm Amelia

Back in 2016, I bought my bus Oliver and spent the next two years building him up. We went from an average of one breakdown every 1,000 miles to completing a coast-to-coast road trip with no major issues. I love working on the mechanics of my bus just as much as I love driving him. Most of my adventures in Oliver have been solo, but now my partner Bryan co-pilots many of our trips!

Other than the bus stuff, I’m a regular free spirit, trying to enjoy as much of this life as possible. As much as I try to plan ahead I’m a sucker for spur-of-the-moment adventures. I believe luxuries hold us back from true freedom, and time spent connecting with others is the most valuable thing in the world.

My life mission is...

My mission is to honor the beauty of life on the open road. To me, this means caring for and respecting the places I go, and also caring for and respecting my bus by keeping him running and keeping the Buslife culture alive.

My best Buslife advice

The community! As soon as you hit the road you are automatically initiated into a global family. These folks know how the Buslife goes and are more than willing to be a part of the ups and downs of your journey. There's always someone you can reach out to for advice or just to meet up for a good time!

My three must-haves are my toolbox, extra oil, and solar battery pack. It's all about self-reliance. You never know when you will be completely alone with no cell service. All three of these items have saved me on multiple occasions and I never drive too far without them.

Learn how to do the mechanical work yourself. You'll put yourself in a much better position to get out of trouble if you're in a bind. The best part is, after a while, you will start to really understand the language of your bus and you'll be able to catch small issues earlier on before they turn into something you might need an experienced mechanic for.

If you are thinking about Buslife, my best piece of advice is to just go for it. There's no experience necessary. You can lean on the community to help you learn along the way. You'll learn not only how to survive Buslife but you'll learn more about yourself than you ever thought possible. Maybe you'll learn that it isn't for you, but you never know until you try. Buslife was the best decision I ever made, I've grown so much because of it, so I always recommend at least giving it a try.
